Shoaib eagers to be PCB chief selector

Sports Desk: Legendary Pakistan pace bowler Shoaib Akhtar has admitted that he is interested in becoming the country’s chief selector.

Akhtar’s comments come after Inzamam’s tenure as chief selector came to an end on Wednesday as he stepped down from the position.

If he were to be appointed chief selector, Akhtar revealed that he would put a lot of investment and faith in Pakistan’s up and coming talent.

“If I get the job [of chief selector], anyone that has the talent should get ready… investments will be made on these youngsters for three years, and I will work to provide them [with] proper chances in the academy and camp,” he was quoted as saying by the Business Recorder.

“I don’t care about averages; I am only concerned with the number of matches the player has won for their side. We would need to set up an entire batting line-up that can play white ball cricket.

In addition to the chief selector role, Akhtar added that he would also want to serve as a mentor for the players in the national team.

He added that he would also adopt a strict policy on the number of domestic Twenty20 leagues Pakistan players would be allowed to participate in.

“I would not allow any player to use Pakistan as a tool to get league contracts. The player [can] only play two leagues and earn money,” he said.

He also believes that Pakistan should have different captains and teams for each format.

“In my opinion, we should have different captains and teams for the three formats of the game,” he said.
