Sri Lanka clinches Test series

Sports Desk: Sri Lanka clinched the two-match test series 1-0 as they beat host Bangladesh by 215 runs in the second and final Test held on Saturday at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium at Mirpur.

Debutant Akila Dananjaya was prime destroyer. He scythed rapidly through the Bangladesh lower middle order, taking 5 for 24 to make it eight wickets on debut - the best performance by a Sri Lankan on debut.


The charge to victory was also sweet for Rangana Herath, who claimed 4 for 49 and in doing so, became the most successful left-arm bowler in Test history.
 

Sri Lanka set a 338 runs target against Bangladesh. But Bangladesh scored 123 runs with loss of all wickets in their second innings.

Sri Lanka 1st innings - 222 for all, Mendis 68, Roshen 56, Perera 31, Akila 20, de Silva 19, Razzak 4/63, Taijul 4/83 and Mustafizur 2/17.

2nd innings - 226 for all Roshen 70 batting, Dimuth Karunaratne 32, Chandimal 30, de Silva 28, Lakmal 21, Gunathilaka 17, Taijul 4/76, Mustafizur 3/49, Miraz 2/37.

Bangladesh 1st innings - 110 for all Miraz 38, Kayes 19, Liton 25, Akila 3/20, Lakmal 3/25 and Perera 2/32. 2nd innings - 123 for all, Mominul 33, Mushfiqur 25, Kayes 17, Liton 12, Akila Dananjaya 5/24, Rangana 4/49.
