Steps needed to stop child killing, torture

Incidents of killing, torture and abuse of children are on the rise across the country with brutalities against kids reaching a whole new level.

According to media reports, 130 children were killed in last five months. A total of 49 children were kidnapped, 244 rape cases were filed and bodies of 14 children were recovered. However, the real figure is much more as a large number of incidents remain out of reports.

Recently it has been learnt that children are facing torture by their close relatives. Even, reports said that two children were allegedly killed by their mother in the capital. The killer mother is now in trial. Another report said that a woman named Rehena Parvin was killed with her two kids in capital's Turag area on June 8. However, it is not clear yet about the reason behind the deaths of the mother and her two kids. There was a family feud in life of victims, media reports.

On that day, another pathetic report floated to media in Chuadanga. Mother allegedly murdered her disabled child at their house in Damurhuda upazila of Chuadanga. Committing suicide along with kids became a regular incident. Now question may rise- what is the reason behinds these brutal incidents? Usually mother leave their lives to save children but now these mothers are choosing death. Why these types of incidents are rising? It's time to think again over the issue.

Our kids are becoming victims due to family, social and political conflicts. This is really alarming. If our children face blockade on the way of their development, lost lives or face mental torture then there is no doubt that the future of the nation is in trouble. 

Once upon a time, joint family was a safe shelter of any children. But, time has changed. The joint family system is almost lost. Now children are not safe in outside not even home. Children are facing torture and persecution at their home. Children get love and care from their parents but now those hands are taking lives of children. Besides, abduction and murdering by neighbor also alarming now.  

We must find the answers of this crisis. Child murders, kidnappers should be punished strictly. The concerned authority should take proper steps in this regard. Today's kid is future leader. We all have the responsibility to build beautiful environment for our children. It is our responsibility to ensure a proper atmosphere for our future.
