Sport Correspondent: Bangladesh showed a decent batting performance in the first Day of the first Test against Pakistan in Khulna after skipper Mushifiqur Rahim won toss and chose to bat first at Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium.

Bangladesh scored 236 runs for 4 wickets in 89.5 overs with Mominul Haque fell prey of an LBW in the last delivery of the day.

Openers Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Kayes gave a slow start adding 52 runs in the opening partnership in 27 overs.

Tamim who was dropped by Hafeez in the third delivery of 20th over, was caught by Azhar Ali in the 27th over bowled by legspinner Yasir Shah. The 26-year left-hand batsman scored 25runs hitting 3 boundaries.

Imrul was also dropped several times and finally caught by bowler Mohammad Hafeez just after bagging his second Test half-century after lunch. The 28-year left hand batsman scored 51 runs off 130 balls hitting 6 fours.

Mominul Haque and Mahmudullah added 95 runs in the third wicket. Mahmudullah missed his twelfth half-century for only one run. He was caught by Sarfraz Ahmed behind the stamps after tea. Mahmudullah scored 59 balls hitting six fours.

Monimul and country’s ace all rounder Shakib Al Hasan then added 49 runs in the fourth wicket partnership. Moninul was firm and got his eighth Test half-century.  He was LBW by Zulfiqur Babar in the last over of the day. The 23-year left-hand batsman scored 80 runs hitting 8 fours.

Shakib was unbeaten on 19 when the stumps called with the out of Mominul Haque.

 



The Tigers handed Test caps to Soumya Sarkar and seamer Mohammad Shahid.

On the other hand Pakistan included 19-year-old batsman Sami Aslam, the national Under-19 captain, for the first time in Tests.
