Teachers declare strike in educational institutions

Staff Correspondent: Private Education Nationalization Liaison Forum announced strike in all private educational institutions from January 23 to 25, demanding nationalization.

The teachers' organization convener Abdul Khalek on Monday morning came up with the announcement during their hunger strike programme in front of the National Press Club in Dhaka.

"The fast unto death programme will continue until the demand is met. Besides, we will observe strike on January 23, 24 and 25 in all the educational institutions," Abdul Khalek said.

He said, "The hunger strike demonstration of our teachers entered into the eighth day. A total of 95 teachers have fallen ill. We hope that the Premier will provide us the scope to return home accepting our demand."

On January 10, the teachers and employees of educational institutions that were excluded from the third phase of nationalization of non-MPO (Monthly Pay Order) institutions started an indefinite sit-in programme. Later, the teachers started hunger strike from January 15.
