Transparency International (TI) has released the global Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) 2019 on Thursday.

According to the TI report, Somalia is the most corrupted country in the world. Among the 180 countries across the world, the country has stood first from the bottom of the corruption index scoring nine points out of 100.

Dr Iftekharuzzaman, Executive Director of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB), unveiled the report at a press conference in Dhanmondi’s Midas Centre.

South Sudan stands second with 12 points from the bottom, Syria third with 13 points, Yemen fourth with 15 points, Venezuela fifth, Sudan sixth, Equatorial Guine seventh and Afghanistan eighth with same points—16. North Korea is in ninth position with 17 points while Libya is in tenth position with 18 points.

Bangladesh has improved three notches in the index 2019, ranking 14th most corrupt country of the world.

The country’s position in the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) of the TI was 13th in 2018.

Bangladesh ranked 146th in the world in 2019.

CPI, which ranks 180 countries by their perceived levels of public sector corruption based on findings by globally-reputable survey sources, uses a scale of zero to 100, where zero is highly corrupt and 100 is very clean.
