Transcom Group Chairman Latifur Rahman no more

Prominent businessman and Transcom Group Chairman Latifur Rahman, 75, is no more.

He breathed his last while sleeping in his paternal home at Chauddagram in Cumilla around 11:33am on Wednesday.

Cheora UP Chairman Ekramul Haque and Daily Prothom Alo Cumilla Correspondent Gaziul Haque Sohag confirmed about the death.

Ekramul Haque said he had been ill for nearly last two years. He had been at his Chauddagram paternal home most of the time.

Latifur Rahman left behind his wife, a son, two daughters and a host of relatives and well-wishers.

Latifur Rahman was born at Jolpaigur on August 28, 1945. He used to live in Gendaria in the capital. He went to Saint Francis School. Later, he shifted to Saint Admonds School of Shilong. He also studied in Saint Javier’s College in Kolkata.

He returned Dhaka in 1965. In the following year, he started work as a trainee in W Rahman Jute Mill. After half and a year, he joined as executive.

He was founding director of Mediaworld, the owning company of The Daily Star, and Chairman of Mediastar, the owning company of Prothom Alo, both leading English and Bangla newspapers of the country.
