Two drug peddlers killed in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfight’

Two drug peddlers including a Rohingya man were killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police at Parjatan Bazar Uttar Mali hill area in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar early Saturday.

The deceased were identified as Ahmed Hossain, 45, son of Hamid Hossain of Ghona area in Hatiya and Abdur Rahman, 46, of Block-D in Noyapara Rohingya Camp area.

Three police men also sustained injury in the incident. They were known as SI Babul, ASI Mohammad Wahid and constable Malekul Islam.

Pradip Kumar Das, officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station, said when a team of police went to the area along with the two drug traders, who were arrested earlier, to recover Yaba and arms their cohorts opened fire on the law enforcers.

Police fired back in self-defense, triggering a gunfight that left Ahmed and Abdur injured with bullet, the OC added.

They were taken to Teknaf Upazila Health Complex and later shifted to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital where doctors declared them dead, the OC said.
