Two drug traders killed in Mymenshingh gunfight

Staff Correspondent, Mymensingh: Two suspected drug peddlers were killed and four policemen injured in separate 'gunfights' with police in Trishal and Tarakanda upazilas in the district early Friday.

The deceased were identified as Sawpon, 30 and Ali Hossain, 38.

Trishal police station Officer-in-Charge Jakiur Rahman said acting on information that some drug dealers selling drugs in the area, police conducted the drive around 4:30am. Meanwhile, sensing presence of the law enforcers, drug traders opened fire. In reply, police also opened fire which triggered fire, leaving Sawpon bullet injured.

Later, he was taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where duty doctor declared him dead.

Three lethal weapon and two hundred pieces of Yaba pills were seized from the spot.

On the other hand, a team of DB police conducted a drive around 2:45am in the area on Tarakanda-Phulpur Highway. Meawhile, drug peddlers opened fire aiming the law enforcers which triggered the gunfight, leaving Ali Hossain critically injured.

Later, he was taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where he died under treatment. 

Ashikur Rahman, officer-in-charge of DB police in Mymensingh district confirmed the matter.
