Wari set to go under lockdown early Saturday

Wari area under ward no 41 of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) is set to go under lockdown as ‘red zone’ for 21 days from early Saturday.

DSCC and law enforcement agencies have already taken all out preparations to implement lockdown there.

According to DSCC and police sources, all streets will be blocked in the specific area. Police patrols and surveillance will be conducted on streets to keep the residents at home. The government has declared general holidays for all government and non-government offices in the area which was announced through loud speakers. Arrangement for supply of essential commodities has been taken.

The sources further said a volunteer team has been formed consisting of members from different local organisations of the lockdown area. They will come forward to assist residents of the area in case of any need. Besides, a protection booth has been set up at Wari Government Primary School. People who have coronavirus-like symptoms can give samples there for test. Apart from these, DSCC and police have set two separate control rooms. Metropolitan Hospital has been prepared for isolation.

More than one officials of DSCC said experience of East Rajabazar will be followed to implement lockdown in Wari. The difficulties face in East Rajabazar will be overcome.

Sarowar Hossain Alo, councillor of ward no 41, said all preparations have been taken. Food for 1,000 families are kept ready. Now lockdown will be implemented. However, assistance from common people need for implementation lockdown.

He further said it has also been confirmed that armed forces will be deployed along with police to implement the lockdown and bring the civilians under control.

When asked, Hannanul Islam, Assistant Commissioner (AC) of DMP said a total of 17 points will be blocked. There will be two streets opened to move in and out in case of emergency. If there is an extreme emergency, someone with appropriate evidence can leave the area. Besides, there will be restrictions on entry and exit of others.

Mentionable, DSCC Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh announced to implement lockdown in Wari on June 30. Then he said the lockdown will be enforced from 6:00am on Saturday.
