Youth killed in Bhairab 'gunfight'

Kishoreganj Correspondent: A youth was killed in a 'gunfight' with police at Syed Nazrul Islam road bridge area of the district's Bhairab upazila early Wednesday.

The youth was identified as Sohag, 25, resident of Bhairab south area.

Two police men were also injured in the incident. They are Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Habibullah and Constable Wahab, according to police.

They were admitted to Bhairab Upazila Health Complex, they added.

Police claimed that Sohag was robber. Cases were filed against him with Bhairab Police Station. Two daggers, a knife, a machete,  a pipe gun and a round of bullets were also seized from the spot.

Mokhlesurl Rahman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bhairab Police Station, confirmed the news.

He said Sohag was arrested on Tuesday night. Police went Syed Nazrul Islam road bridge area with him to recover arms. Sensing the presence of law enforcers, his associates fired at police. Police also retaliated to them, leaving Sohag and two policemen injured. The injured were taken to Bhairab upazila health complex where attending doctors declared Sohag death.
