6,055 killed in road crashes in 2016

Staff Correspondent: A total of 6,055 people were killed while 15,914 injured in road accidents occurred in 2016 across the country.

The figure was disclosed in a statistics report of Bangladesh Passengers` Welfare Association.  Mozammel Hoque Chowdhury, secretary general of the organisation, presented the report `Bangladesh Road Accident Observation Report-2016` at a press conference in the National Press Club on Wednesday.

"Based on the observation of Bangladesh Passengers` Welfare Association, a total of 4,312 road accidents occurred in 2016 where 6,055 people were killed while 15,914 injured," Mozammel Hoque Chowdhury said.

Earlier on January 1, Nirapad Sarak Chai (We Demand Safe Road)-NISCHA Chairman Film Actor Ilias Kanchan presented another statistics report of road accidents where he said a total of 2,316 road crashes occurred from 1 January to 31 December in 2016  in which 4,144 people were killed while 5,255 injured.
