AL selects Sohel Hazari for Tangail-4 by-polls

Staff Correspondent: The ruling Awami League has selected Hasan Imam Khan Sohel Hazari as its candidate for contesting the Tangail-4 (Kalihati) by-polls slated for November 10.
 
The decision was taken at a meeting of the Awami League Parliamentary Board (ALPB) held at Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s official residence Ganobhaban on Thursday evening. ALPB President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina chaired the meeting.

Sohel Hazari is the former chairman of Kalihati upazila Parishad and former organising secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League.

The constituency fell vacant as expelled Awami League leader Latif Siddiqui resigned from parliament on September 1.

As per the schedule announced by the Election Commission, the last day for submission of nomination paper is October 11 and the scrutiny will take place on October 13, while October 21 is the last day for the withdrawal of candidature.
 
The total number of voters in the constituency is 277,847. Of them, 136,374 are males and 141,473 females.
