BBIN: New platform for regional trade

Hasan Mahamud: Bangladesh, Bhutan, India and Nepal (BBIN) have taken a project to develop the road transport communications among the countries of SAARC. The move will pave way of movement of passenger and cargo vehicles as well across their borders.

On July 8 this year, the Bangladesh Cabinet approved the draft of the `Motor Vehicles Agreement for the Regulation of Passenger, Personal, and Cargo Vehicular Traffic` in this regard.

Later Road Transport Ministers of the four countries inked BBIN Motor Vehicle Agreement (MVA) at Thimpu in Bhutan on June 15.

It is believed that the initiative will boost regional trade which will play a significant role in economic development of the region. Along with the trade and commerce, the initiative will expand people-to-people contact via establishing inter-country road connectivity in the region.
