Staff Correspondent: A leader of ruling Awami League in Manoharganj in Comilla died on Saturday after he was hacked five days ago by local activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League.

The deceased was identified as Yakub Ali, 59, former Awamil League general secretary of Keyari village, son of late Bazlur Rahman.  

Local sources said that on June 29, an altercation took place between the victim Yakub Ali and a local Chhatra League, student wing of the party, activist Harunur Rashid Babu, son of Selim Mia, centering cucumber buying.

Following the incident, some 8-10 Chhatra League activists attacked Yakub Ali and his uncle Fazlur Rahman, leaving them critically injured.

Later, the injured were rushed to Comilla medical college hospital and shifted to a private clinic in Tongi, Dhaka where Yakub died under treatment on Saturday around 3:00pm.

Manoharganj Thana Officer-in-Charge Chandan Kumar Chakraborty said that Yakub got admitted in hospital 3-4 days ago, later died under treatment. No written complaint was found yet. Action will be taken after complaint.
