BJP leader shot dead in Bihar

International Desk: Senior BJP leader Visheshwar Ojha, who had contested the 2015 assembly polls from Shahpur assembly seat as BJP nominee and lost, was shot dead by criminals near Sonvarsha market under the Shahpur police station of Bhojpur district on Friday evening.


Ojha, whose name had figured in cases in the past, was one of the 10 vice presidents in the state`s BJP unit.
"I am on way to the site of incident," Bhojpur SP N C Jha told ET on phone.


Reports reaching here Bhojpur said Ojha, along with his few supporters, had gone to Sonvarsha market by a vehicle. Criminals opened fire at him and his supporters. One person is reported to have received bullet injuries and is undergoing treatment.


The incident took place just a day after the Chief Minister Nitish Kumar reviewed the law and order situation in the state. Exactly a week ago, a local politician Brijnathi Singh was killed in Patna`s Kachi Dargah area.


Former deputy chief minister and senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi said CM Kumar has lost will power to put a check on the growing criminal incidents. In a press release, Modi said Ojha, who lost the assembly polls from Shahpur seat as BJP nominee, had bagged more than 50000 votes.
