China keens to construct tunnel in Jamuna

Staff Correspondent: A Chinese company named Zhejiang Construction Investment Group Co., LTD has expressed its keen to construct tunnel in Jamuna River.

The company has expressed their eagerness for the construction while the high officials of the company meeting with the Bangladesh`s Road Transport and Bridge Minister Obaidul Qauder on Friday.

One of the officials of the ministry has confirmed this to risingbd.com on the day.

"In response, the Minister has told to the company to send their proposals in this connection to Bangladesh," the ministry sources also confirmed.

Earlier June 30, Bangladesh signed an agreement with China to build a 3.5 kilometers long tunnel over the Karnaphuli River in Chittagong.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges inked the deal with Chinese Communications Construction Company (CCCC) in the Chinese capital of Beijing on the day.

Meanwhile, Road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader and Chinese Transport Minister Yang Chuantang attended in the agreement signing ceremony.

The 3.5 km tunnel will cost $705 billion.
