Staff Correspondent: The special court will hear January 12 the statement of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in Zia Charitable Trust and Zia Orphanage corruption cases.

Judge Abu Ahmed Jamadar of Dhaka’s Third Special Court set up at Bakshibazar in the capital passed the order on Thursday.

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia went to the makeshift court around 11:30am.

On August 8, 2011, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the Zia Charitable Trust graft case with Tejgaon Police Station accusing four people, including Khaleda, of raising funds for the trust from unknown sources abusing power.

ACC Deputy Director Harunur Rashid, also an investigation officer of the case, pressed charges against the accused on January 16, 2012.

The ACC filed the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case on July 3, 2008 with Ramna Police Station accusing Khaleda Zia, her son Tarique Rahman and four others of misappropriating over Tk 2.10 crore which came as grants from a foreign bank for the orphans.

On August 5, 2010, ACC deputy director Harunur Rashid submitted the charge sheet in the case against six people, including the BNP chairperson.
