Cyclonic `Komen’ weakens

Staff Correspondent: The cyclonic storm `Komen` has become more weak after crossing the  Bangladesh coast near Sandwip of Chittagong.

From the Thursday midnight, the cyclonic storm began to cross Sandwip of Chittagong with a wind speed of 60-70 kmph.

According to Met Office, on Friday morning it was crossing the Noakhali area and was moving towards north-west part of the country.

Weakening Cyclone Komen made heavy that has inundated vast areas of coastal districts.


It was centered about 50 kms southwest of Chittagong port and 105 kms northwest of Cox`s Bazar port on Thursday evening.


Earlier this morning, the cyclonic storm `Komen` hit the Saint Martin`s Island and Teknaf with a wind speed of 51-61 kmph.


The Met office has advised number 3 danger alert for Chittagong and Cox’s Bazar ports from signal number 7. Fishing boats and ships at sea have been asked to continue staying at safer places.


Due to cyclone, the coastal areas are experiencing rains with winds.


The government has evacuated many people from the coastal areas before the storm hit.


At least five people have been killed after being hit by trees, uprooted by the storm.
