Man crushed under bus while fleeing from picketers

Staff CorrespondentChittagong: A man was crushed under the wheels of a bus while he was fleeing from picketers during a transport strike in Chittagong.

The incident happened in Bishwa Road area of Pahartoli in the port city around 8:30am on Tuesday.

The deceased could not be identified immediately.

Journalist Hamidur Rahman Liton, a witness of the incident, said people started to flee the scene for safe shelters in a bid to save their lives as supporters of transport strike enforced from Tuesday morning began to vandalise three-wheelers in Nayabazar area of Pahartoli. An unknown man was crushed under a bus during the rush.

Morshed Hossain, Duty Officer of Pahartoli Police Station, said that they were informed the matter. Police were sent to the spot.
 
Transport workers have enforced a 24-hour strike across five districts of Chittagong from Tuesday morning to press home their nine-point demand including construction of bus and truck terminals and parking spots for auto-rickshaws and three-wheelers

The strike is being observed in Chittagong, Cox`s Bazar, Rangamati, Khagrachhari and Bandarban.
