Diplomats assured of highest security

Diplomatic Correspondent: The foreign diplomats on Tuesday expressed their content over the overall security taken by the government after recent killing incidents.

The diplomats have expressed their satisfaction in a meeting at state guesthouse Padma in the city on Tuesday afternoon.

Meanwhile, the foreign diplomats also sought additional security across the country.

British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Robert Gibson also briefed journalists after a government briefing with diplomats over the recent killings.

He said, “We talked about additional security measures everywhere.”

Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali, IGP and top officials of the law enforcers assured the foreign diplomats about their security measures.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam, US envoy in Dhaka Marcia Bernicat, Prime Minister`s political affairs adviser HT Imam and other top level government officials were present at the meeting.

A Japanese man had been killed near Rangpur in northern Bangladesh, five days after an Italian citizen was murdered in the capital Dhaka.
 
On 28 September, Islamic State claimed responsibility for the killing on Twitter, according to the SITE Intelligence Group, a US monitoring organisation. The jihadist group also said it carried out the killing of Cesare Tavella, from Italy, in Dhaka’s diplomatic zone.
