DMP releases faces of 9 ‘militants’

Staff Correspondent: The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has released faces of nine ‘militants’ in a bid to find out their identities.

DMP published the faces on its Facebook page at around 6.30pm on Tuesday.

In the post, DMP asked the citizens to provide information about them in the inbox if they identify any of them.

There were a total of nine militants killed in a gunfight with the law enforcing agencies during a raid at the Kalyanpur militants’ den early Tuesday.

SWAT, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), detectives and Dhaka police jointly carried out the one-hour operation `Storm 26` starting at 5.51am at the house at Road No. 5 near Kalyanpur bus stand.

Police said the militants were occupying a fifth-floor flat in the six-storey building— most of its apartments rented out to bachelors.

Sheikh Maruf Hassan, additional commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, told the media after completion of the operation that one of the militants was detained from the spot with a bullet injury and was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment.

The injured man has been listed at the DMCH as 25-year-old ‘Hasan’, son of one Rezaul Karim from the northern district of Bogra.
