Extreme traffic jams in city for Eid shopping

A scene of traffic jam

Staff Correspondent: Traffic has become so diabolical that gridlock of vehicles forms on almost every thoroughfare in the capital in the fasting month of Ramadan, causing immense sufferings to city-dwellers.

Centering Eid shopping, people started moving towards markets and the crowd of people also made a serious impact on city streets.

Saturday was the government holyday but the city dwellers could not get release from the enormous traffic jam. Rush of crowd and slow road repairing and sloth moving of vehicles caused immense suffering in the lives of city dwellers.

Thousands of vehicles remained stuck in terrible traffic jams for hours from 11.00 am. Severe gridlocks were seen at various important places like Shanti Nagar, Malibagh intersection, Bailey Road, Mouchak, Rampura, Badda, BanglaMotor, Karwan Bazar, Panthapath, Farmgate, Shahbagh, New Market, Mohakhali and several areas of Mirpur.

Frequent road crossings by pedestrians, unplanned bus stops, construction works, repair, occupation of walkways and roads by hawkers heightened the sufferings.

The main cause behind the Saturday’s traffic jam was Eid shopping. City dwellers got out of their homes to shop for the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr creating huge jam.

Some passengers complained that the construction works of flyover was the main reason of traffic jam in Mouchak, Malibagh, Shanti Nagar and Rampura areas.

A passenger from Mirpur named Milon said that the entire roads from Mirpur to Farmgate are packed with vehicles. The additional traffic jam was created due to Eid marketing.
