German Day celebrated in Dhaka

Economic Correspondent: The German Day was celebrated in Dhaka in a grand manner. Diplomats, government officials, political leaders, businessmen and civil society members joined the event held at Hotel Westin in city on Wednesday evening.

Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali, Prime Minister`s political advisor HT Imam, Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique along with ambassadors and diplomats of various countries attended the celebration.

BNP Vice Chairman Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury and leaders of BNP and other political parties were also present alongside the ministers and lawmakers of ruling party.

US Ambassador Marcia Stephens Bloom Bernicat joined the celebration at 7:30pm.

The Day of German Unity is the national day of Germany, celebrated on October 3. It commemorates the anniversary of German reunification in 1990, in which the German Democratic Republic (GDR/East Germany) joined the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG/West Germany) to form the reunited nation of Germany.

However, this year, the day was celebrated in Dhaka on Wednesday (October 7) due to unavoidable circumstances. Foreign diplomats took the event as a discussing platform of recent killings of two foreign nationals, one Italian national in Dhaka and another Japanese citizen in Rangpur.

Walton, the country leading electric, electronics, automobile, mobile phone and home appliances products manufacturing and marketing company was the gold member of the event organised by Bangladesh German Chamber of Commerce and Industries.
 
Uday Hakim, Operative Director of Walton (Creative and Publication) represented his organisation at the event.

Video documentary on manufacturing high-tech Walton products was presented on the celebration. Rakibul Hossain Ahmed, Senior Assistant Director, Walton High-Tech Industries Ltd. and Faisal Ahmed, Assistant General Manager of Walton`s International Marketing Department briefed the guest about various products of Walton and the successes and achievements of the brand in home and abroad.
