Staff Correspondent, Chittagong: Miscreants have set fire on two trucks laden with goods on the Rangamati-Khagrachhari route in Betchhari area of the district early Monday.

Protesting this, Bus-Truck Owners' Association has shut plying of all types of vehicle on the route.

Md Sekandar Ali, general secretary of Bus-Truck Owners' Association, said miscreants in the hill tracks stopped five trucks laden with goods which were heading towards Khagrachhari from Rangamati and demanded extortion money from them.

Failing to get the extortion money, they set fire on two trucks leaving two workers critically burnt. They are now undergoing treatment at Chittagong Medical College Hospital, he said.

All types of vehicles have been kept shut on the route from today morning in protest against the attack on trucks and workers and demanding a stop to extortion. The strike will continue until their demands are met, Sekandar Ali added.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kotwali Police Station Md Rashid confirmed the matter to risingbd.com.

Police are on alert to keep the situation under control, the OC said.
