Scarcity of hilsa fish in peak season

Noakhali Correspondent: Though the peak season of hilsa fish is underway but the fishermen passing their days idle due to lack of hilsa fish in the rivers.

The fishermen are trying to catch hilsa fish by heart and soul but they are returning from rivers with empty hands. The fishermen are passing a rainy day in isolated land Hatiya upazila.  

On the other hand, attack of pirates, token and extortion collection made the lives of coastal fishermen more miserable.

Local fishermen said that the rainy season is underway which is the perfect time of hilsa fishing is but, there are no sufficient fishes in rivers. As a result, the fishermen could not manage their daily necessities.

The fish traders of the upazila are waiting for hilsa fish.  

Bangla Bazar Fishery Ghat trader Helal Uddin said that some hilsa fishes were caught in last phases of June but no fishes were seen till now from the beginning of July.   

Another hilsa fish trader Ibrahim said that fishing boats are returning from sea without fishes. Side by side, the fishermen fear to go to river due to pirate attack.  

Hatiya fishery officer Pijush Chandra Das said that the ongoing situation will change soon after rain.

Hatiya Thana Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nurul Huda said that police patrolling management will be improved until hilsa fishing season.
