Youth’s body exhumed 5 months after burial

Kushtia Correspondent: Following a court order, body of a youth was exhumed from the grave five months after his burial in Bheramara upazila of the district to investigate into his mysterious death.

The body of victim Shanto Hossain (25) was exhumed from Satbaria cemetery of the upazila on Wednesday noon.

Nur Hossain Khandaker, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bheramara Police Station, said Shanto went to a house of Chumki Khatun Buri, a neighbor, after getting an invitation on August 8, 2016 and had a meal there.

Having meal, he returned home but fell sick, the OC said.

Family members took him to Bheramara health complex immediately where duty doctors suggested taking him to Kushtia General Hospital. But Shanto died on the way to the hospital, the OC added.

The OC said the family members were forced to bury Shanto without autopsy in the face of pressure from influential people of the area.

At one stage of the incident, Asadul Islam, father of Shanto, filed a case with a kushtia court against Chumki Khatun Buri and several members of her family.

After long five months, the court ordered the authorities concerned to exhume the body of Shanto for an autopsy and investigate into the mystery of his death.
