Indian President turns teacher

Risingbd Desk: Indian President Pranab Mukherjee on Friday taught Political Science to senior secondary students of a government school in the President’s Estate in Delhi ahead of Teachers Day on Saturday.


Here are some notes from the President`s lecture:


1    Empowerment through entitlement and entitlement backed by legal guarantees is the new dimension of Indian democracy.


2    The Constitution starts with - `We the people of India.`The words `secular` and `socialist` were added through 44th amendment in 1975 Indians have the power to make their own laws.


3    2014 polls saw more than 55 crore people casting their votes. The first general election in 1952 had 17.5 crore voters.


4    93 per cent of expenses come from India’s own pockets, not from borrowed resources. Majority of money is spent on development for people.


5    Some may say our GDP growth is not very high, but we make changes in policy in interest of the people.
