`Judiciary can be criticised but should be responsible`

Staff Correspondent: Irresponsible criticism may lead to immeasurable harm to the institution of the judiciary, Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha has said.

"But, the judiciary can be subjected to fair criticism, if the situation demands," said the Chief Justice.

The CJ came up with the remarks while addressing a seminar titled `Digitalisation of Bangladesh Judiciary` as the chief guest at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre on Saturday morning.

UN development agency UNDP and the government of Bangladesh jointly organised the seminar in cooperation with the Supreme Court.

It is a matter of satisfaction that the public at large continue to hold our judicial institution in high esteem, despite its shortcomings, SK Sinha said.

Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, Law Minister Anisul Haque, State Minister for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Division Junaid Ahmed Polok, Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Abul Kalam Azad, UN Resident Coordinator in Dhaka Robert Watkins were also present, among others, on the occasion.
