Jamaat leader killed in Meherpur ‘gunfight’

Meherpur Correspondent: A leader of Jamaat-e-Islami was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police in the district early Monday.
The gunfight took place around 2.30am in Shashanghat area of Meherpur town.
The deceased was identified as Ramjan Ali (44), son of the late Amir Sheikh at Rajnagar village of Pirojpur union under Meherpur Sadar upazila.
Ramjan Ali was arrested earlier and as per his confessional statement, police along with him conducted a drive for arms haul in the area. Cohorts of Ramjan Ali opened fire on law enforcers to snatch him that triggered a gunfight, leaving Ramjan Ali dead on the spot.
Four policemen including SI Mejbahul were injured in the gunfight.
Police said there were seven cases against him.
