Khaleda skips hearing again

Staff Correspondent: BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has not appeared before the special court at Bakshi Bazar in Dhaka today (Thursday) for the hearing of Zia Orphanage and Zia Charitable Trust graft cases.

"Madam (Khaleda) is taking rest as she is physically ill and has not appeared before the court," said Sairul Kabir Khan, a staff of the BNP chief`s media wing.

However, the hearing was held in Khaleda`s absentia. She is scheduled to appear before the court of Judge Abu Ahmed Jamadar of Dhaka Special Judge Court-3, set up at the Bakshi Bazar Alia Madrasah playground, this morning.

Earlier on August 3 Khaleda appeared before the court, when it fixed August 10 for the next hearing against the BNP chairperson in the two graft cases but she did not appear. In that day the hearing also held in her absentia too.

On July 3, 2008, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed a case with Ramna Police Station against six, including Khaleda Zia and her eldest son Tarique Rahman, for allegedly misusing Tk 2.1 crore from the Zia Orphanage Trust funds.

On August 8, 2011, the ACC filed another case with Tejgaon Police Station accusing the BNP chief and three others for misappropriating Tk 3.15 crore from the Zia Charitable Trust fund.
