Long-cherished dream going to be fulfilled: PM

Staff Correspondent: Inaugurating the construction work of the country`s first-ever metro rail project, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said through opening the project, the long-cherished dream of the people is going to be fulfilled. It will save working hours that are wasted due to traffic jam.

“Today is the day to materialize the dream of metro rail ... our government would be able to make arrangements for smooth movement of the people by completing such mega projects in a faster pace," she said.

The Premier said this while inaugurating the metro rail project, also known as the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Line-6 and Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in the capital on Sunday morning.

She said, “Our one of the goals is to build a coordinated modern public transport system and ensure sustainable development for further speeding up the pace of the country`s socio-economic uplift."

"A safe and modern public transportation system is a pre-requisite to all kinds of development ... such a system accelerates the pace of the work of the people as well as development of the country," she added.

Sheikh Hasina said, "Today is a special joyful day for the people of the capital city as the construction works of the long-awaited first-ever metro rail and the Bus Rapid Transit are going to start."
