Three of Kalyanpur militants identified

Staff Correspondent: Three of the nine militants who were killed in the operation `Storm-26` by joint forces in the capital`s Kalyanpur on Tuesday have been identified, police said.

 

One of them is Zubayer Hossain, son of Abdul Quaiyum of Paschim Maizdi village of Noakhali sadar upazila, another is Sabbirul Haque, son of Azizul Haque, hailed from Fulgazipara of Anwara upazila of Chittagong and the third youth  has been identified as Md Sazzad Rouf alias Arko who hailed from the capatal`s Basundhara area.

 

Anwar Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sudharam Model Police Station in Noakhali, said, "Zubayer went on missing on May 25. He was a first year student of the Department of Political Science in Noakhali Government College."

 

"His family members were sending to Dhaka to identify the body. Details will be informed later," he added.

 

Sabbir, student of Chittagong International Islamic University, has been missing for six months. He was involved in Chhatra Shibir`s politics.

 

The third youth on the second row of in the photo published by the police has been identified as Md Sazzad Rouf alias Arko.


Arko was the son of one Tawhid Rouf in the capital’s Basundhara Residential Area (House-304, Road-10, Block-C).  Arko was an MBA student of North South University.


Arko`s name was in the updated missing list released by the Rapid Action Battalion on July 25. According to the list, he has been missing since February 3 this year.


Different sources have confirmed Arko to be a close friend of Nibras Islam, one of the Gulshan café attackers.

Nine militants were killed in the operation in the capital`s Kalyanpur on Tuesday morning while another, Rakibul Hassan Reagan, was arrested in bullet-injured.
