PM to inaugurate smart card distribution Oct 2

Staff Correspondent: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate distribution of smart National Identity (NID) cards among city residents on October 2.

Sirajul Islam, secretary of the Election Commission, confirmed the matter on Monday.

Sirajul Islam said the election commission has taken all preparation to distribute smart cards among Dhaka people. Earlier, we sought time to the prime minister for inauguration of smart cards. Following this, she has given consent to inaugurate distribution of smart National Identity (NID) cards among city residents on October 2.

We have decided to distribute smart cards among city people first. Then, the smart cards will be distributed by turns among the people of City Corporation, districts, upazilas, municipalities, and last of all among the people who belong to union level, the secretary added.
