Municipality polls won`t be deferred: EC

Staff Correspondent: The municipality election slated for December 30 will not be deferred, Election Commission (EC) sources said.

Besides, the EC has decided that lawmakers cannot take part in municipality election campaign.

The decisions were taken at a meeting at EC office in city`s Agargaon on Monday noon following various parties` request for more time to prepare for the election. Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad and other Election Commissioners were present in the meeting.

The last date of filing nomination for Bangladesh’s first municipality polls through 234 municipalities that will be held under party banners is December 3.
