Staff Correspondent: Although four years have elapsed, the investigation agency still gropes in the dark over the detection of the assailants of journalist couple Sagar Sarwar and Mehrun Runi.

Investigations are virtually at a standstill. The only visible progress being made in the case is the repeated extension of time for investigations.

The investigation officer has approached the court to extend the time for investigations many times over the last four years.

The families of these two murdered journalists have nothing to do but wait while the investigations remain dormant.

Director of RAB`s legal and media wing Commander Mufti Mahmud Khan said three of the eight persons arrested in this case are on bail. A report was submitted before the court on January 16 this year. Another report may be submitted on February 28.

"We also sent some evidences to US. The investigation is undergoing but we need some more time," he added.

Earlier, a US laboratory has confirmed the presence of two men through DNA tests after scrutinising the evidence collected from the place of occurrence as supplied by the designated investigation agency. DNA (deoxyribo nucleic acid) is a molecule that encodes the genetic instructions used in the development and functioning of all known living organisms and many viruses.

On February 11, 2012, Maasranga Television News Editor Golam Sarwar, alias Sagar Sarwar and his wife ATN Bangla senior reporter Mehrun Nahar Runi were found dead at their rented apartment in the city’s West Rajabazar area.

Sagar had suffered 28 stab wounds while Runi five before they breathed their last.

Nousher Alam Roman, brother of Runi said they have just been reassuring us all these days. We too were waiting expectantly. But now we are frustrated. We do not know to whom we should go for justice.

"We only think of Megh, only child of the couple. What should we say him about his parents if we do not get justice," he added.
