Parliament passes budget for 2016-17 FY

Parliament Correspondent: The Parliament has passed a Tk340,605 crore budget for 2016-17 fiscal year, with a target to achieve 7.2% growth.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith moved the Appropriations Bill, 2016 seeking a budgetary allocation of Tk464,553 cr which was passed by voice vote today.
It is the third budget of the incumbent Awami League-led government which retained power through the 2014 national polls.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Opposition leader Rawshan Ershad and Jatiya Party Chairman Hussain Muhammad Ershad and other Members of the Parliament attended in the House.
Earlier, 420 cut-motions that stood in the name of opposition and independent members on 55 demands for grant for different ministries were rejected by voice vote.
Seven MPs, several of them independent and others from the Jatiya Party, submitted their cut-motions on the budget.
