Rangpur Medical`s class rooms locked up

Staff Correspondent: A faction of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) locked up the class rooms and hostel of Rangpur Medical College and Hospital over forming its new BCL committee.

Tension prevails in the campus over the issue. Additional cops have been deployed in the campus to avert any unexpected incident.

Medical College sources said Rangpur Metropolitan BCL declared new a new committee for the Rangpur Medical unit without cancelling the previous committee. Masud Alam and Gouranga Chandra Saha were made president and Secretary respectively of the nine-member committee.

Leaders of the incumbent committee became agitated after they had heard of the new committee. They locked up the class rooms along with Helipad student hostel on Wednesday morning.

At one stage, members of new committee tried to break the locks triggering tensions in the campus. Later, the situation calmed down while police were deployed.

Mahfuzul Haque Rakib, president of old committee, said RMP-BCL declared new committee without demolishing the existing one. So, general students, being agitated, locked up the class rooms and hostel.

Principal of the college Professor Dr. Abu Taleb, however, denied over locking up the class rooms and hostel, saying discussion will be held with both groups over issue.
