Staff Correspondent: A special court in Dhaka has asked BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia to appear before it on December 22 in the Zia Charitable Trust graft case otherwise her bail will be canceled.

Judge Abu Ahmed Jamadar of Dhaka’s Third Special Court set up at Bakshibazar in the capital passed the order on Thursday.

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia skipped the trial proceedings in the Zia Charitable Trust graft case on Thursday on health ground.

On December 8, the special court fixed December 15 to hear the self defence statements of the BNP Chairperson in the Zia Charitable Trust graft case.

Earlier, Judge Abu Ahmed Jamadar issued the order to Khaleda to appear before the court on December 8 as she did not appear on December 1 and sought time through her lawyer.

The ACC filed the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case on July 3, 2008 with Ramna Police Station accusing Khaleda Zia, her son Tarique Rahman and four others of misappropriating over Tk 2.10 crore which came as grants from a foreign bank for the orphans.

On August 5, 2010, ACC deputy director Harunur Rashid submitted the charge sheet in the case against six people, including the BNP Chairperson.
