Entertainment Correspondent: Renowned Bangladeshi singer Runa Laila has been named for Dadasaheb Phalke Special Jury Award, India`s most prestigious award in cinema.
The iconic singer herself made the discloser at a Facebook post on Tuesday.
"Will be receiving the Dada Saheb Phalke Special Jury Award along with other jury members !!! Alhamdulillah !!!" she wrote on her Facebook.
This year the recipient of the award will be conferred on April 30. The award comprises a Swarna Kamal (Golden Lotus) medallion, a shawl, and a cash prize of Rs 1,000,000 (US$15,000).
First presented in 1969, the award was introduced by the Government of India to commemorate Dadasaheb Phalke`s contribution to Indian cinema. Phalke (1870–1944), who is popularly known as and often regarded as "the father of Indian cinema", was an Indian film-maker who directed India`s first full-length feature film, Raja Harishchandra (1913).
