SC summons Janakantha editor

Staff Correspondent: The Supreme Court (SC) has summoned Bengali daily Janakantha Editor Atiqullah Khan Masud and Executive Editor Swadesh Roy.

A four-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice SK Sinha passed the order on Wednesday morning after delivering the BNP leader Salauddin Quader Chowdhury`s verdict.

The apex court came up with the order for publishing an opinion column with the verdict of death-row war crimes convict SQ Chowdhury.

The SC also asked the Janakantha editor and executive editor to appear before it on August 3 and explain why contempt of court proceedings should not be brought against them for publishing such an article on July 16.
