Shajahan to certify BNP candidates

Staff Correspondent: BNP Joint Secretary General Mohammad Shajahan will give certificate to BNP candidates to get nomination from Election Commission (EC) in the country`s maiden partisan municipal polls.

BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia placed this responsibility on him. A delegation of BNP submitted the attested copy in this regard to deputy secretary of EC Shamsul Alam on Saturday noon.

The five member delegation including Assistant Office Secretary of the party Asadul Karim Shahin, Saiful Islam Tipu and Emran Saleh Prince, Deputy Publicity Secretary, arrived at Election Commission around 12:15 pm.

Emerging from EC, Emran Saleh Prince told newsmen that, according to rules and regulations, BNP chairperson gave the power to Shajahan, a Joint Secretary General of the party, to certify BNP candidates for contesting in municipal polls. We submitted the attested copy by the BNP chief to EC. Later, EC will send it to returning officers of the municipalities.

CEC Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad on Tuesday announced that polls would be held in 236 municipalities for the first time on party lines on Deceber 30.
