Sister killed by brother in city

Staff Correspondent: An elderly woman was strangled to death by her brother in city’s Bangshal area on Wednesday morning.

The deceased was identified as Asma Akter, 55, wife of Haji Jahangir Hossain of Nayabazar in Bangshal area of Dhaka old city.

Haji Selim, brother-in-law of the deceased woman, alleged that Akbar Hossain, younger brother of Asma Akter and his two associates went to the flat of his sister to claim Tk 50,000 he owned from her. An altercation over the money arose between the brother and sister. At one stage, Akbar and his associates strangled her mouth and pushed her on the floor before fleeing the scene snatching away five gold rings from the victim.

Injured Asma was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where doctors declared her dead around 11.00am.

Confirming the mater, Abdul Kuddus, officer-in-charge of Bangshal Police Station said police were sent to the spot for investigation. The corpse was kept at the DMCH morgue for autopsy.
