South Africa win T20 series against Bangladesh

Sport Correspondent: Visiting South Africa won the two-match T20 series against Bangladesh beating the hosts by 31 runs in the secondTwenty20 International match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in the capital on Tuesday.

Bangladesh scored 138 runs after 19.2 overs losing all wickets after a steady start in the second Twenty20 International of two-match series against South Africa.

Left-arm medium-fast bowler Wayne Dillon Parnell took opener Tamim Iqbal Khan at 13, Leie sent Soumya, Sabbir and Mushfiqur back to the pavilion at 37, 1 and 0 respectively.

Left-hand batsman Shakib Al Hasan backed to the pavilion at 8 while Right-hand bat Mohammad Nasir Hossain for a duck and Liton at 10.

Right-hand batsman Mashrafe Bin Mortaza was the eighth wicket to fall after Kyle Abbott’s Yorker uprooted his leg-stump.

The Bangladesh skipper also known as Koushik smashed two massive sixes during his cameo of 17 runs from 8 balls.


Earlier, Bangladesh came back well and restricted South Arica to 169 though their openers Quinton de Kock and AB de Villiers laid a strong platform for the visitors in the second and final Twenty20 International of a two-match series.

 


The Proteas scored 169 for 4 in 20 overs after they won toss and chose to bat first at Shere Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

Bangladesh left-arm spinner Arafat Sunny made de Kock caught at midwicket by Sabbir Rahman in the 11th over after South Africa made a 95-run opening partnership off 63 balls. Kock scored 44 runs off 31 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes.

Nasir Hossain then bagged the wickets of JP Duminy (6) and AB de Villiers in two consecutive balls of the next over. Villiers scored 40 off 34 balls hitting 6 fours.

South Africa captain Faf du Plessis (16) and David Miller then added only 34 runs off 37 balls. Plessis was caught by Mushfiqur Rahim off Mustafizur Rahman in the 18th over.

David Miller and Rilee Rossouw then added 33 runs off 14 balls in the last wicket unbroken partnership. Millier was unbeaten on 30 while Rossouw on 19 who made the score off only 6 balls smashing 1 four and 2 sixes.

Nasir Hossain claimed 2 wickets for 26 while Arafat Sunny and Mustafizur Rahman shared two between them.

Bangladesh have left out Sohag Gazi and gave debut to Rony Talukdar while legspinner Eddie Leie got his maiden T20 cap in place of Kagiso Rabada for South Africa.
