Sundarbans robber gang`s surrender ceremony postponed

Bagerhat Correspondent: The formal surrender ceremony of members of ‘Master Bahini’, a robber gang active in the Sundarbans, has been postponed.

The programme has been postponed as Home Minister Md Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and Director General (DG) of RAB Benazir Ahmed will not be able to attend the programme.

Officer In Charge (OC) of Mongla Thana Md Lutfor Rahman confirmed the news.

Earlier, members of ‘Master Bahini’ including its leader Md Mostafa Sheikh, alias Master Mostafa, surrendered to the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) early Sunday to return to normal life.

During their surrender the gang handed over about 50 arms and five thousands of bullets.

The robber chief sent letters to Home Minister Md Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and Director General (DG) of RAB Benazir Ahmed on May 3, requesting steps for their surrender as they would like to return to normal life.

The robbers used to collect ransom by kidnapping fishermen, mouals (honey collectors) and baoalis (wood cutters).
