Take preparations for next general election: PM to MPs

Staff Correspondent: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has asked her party’s lawmakers to take preparations for the next general election.

The premier made the directive while addressing an emergency meeting of the Awami League Parliamentary Party held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Tuesday afternoon.

She said, “You (lawmakers) should ensure development in your own areas and people’s peace as we are getting preparation for the next parliamentary election.”

The Prime Minister asked her party’s lawmakers to form a functional committee in their respective areas with the people irrespective of political affiliation to combat militancy and extremism in the country.

We will have to ensure people’s security and the country’s congenial atmosphere for the sake of continuation of the country’s overall development, she said.

To make the mission a success, Hasina also president of the ruling Awami League, said active committees need to be formed across the country so that militant and extremist forces cannot create any volatile situation.

The premier chaired the meeting that began at around 4:00pm at the parliament complex.

Several ruling party lawmakers also spoke at the meeting.
