Risingbd Desk: Taliban has elected Mullah Akhtar Mansoor as its new leader, Taliban sources have told media, as the group confirmed the death of Mullah Omar.
The Afghan government said on Wednesday that Omar died more than two years ago, in a hospital in Karachi.
Following the announcement, the second rounds of peace talks between the Taliban and the Afghan government have been postponed.
Mullah Akhtar Mansour, Mullah Omar`s deputy, will replace him, sources close to the Taliban leadership said.
Media reports say the move is likely to divide the militants, and that many senior figures opposed the appointment.
