JMB man killed in `firing` with police

Bagerhat Correspondent: A member of the banned militant outfit Jama`atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) was killed in `firing` with police at Rakhalgachhi area of the district`s sadar upazila early Sunday.
 
The deceased could not be identified immediately.

Law enforcers seized two shutter guns, three hand-bombs and five rounds of bullets from the spot.

Superintendent of Police (SP) of the district Pankaj Chandra Roy said police conducted a drive at the area on information that some 10 to 12 JMB men were hanging out there for carrying out any subversive activities. Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the militants fired at them, forcing cops to retaliate for self-defence which left the JMB man bullet-hit.

He was immediately rushed to Khulna Medical College and Hospital where attending doctors declared him dead, the SP said.

However, the other militants were managed to flee scene, he added.

"Details in this connection would be disclosed later," the SP said.
