Tributes poured to Qadri at Shaheed Minar

Staff Correspondent: The mortal remains of late poet Shahid Qadri has been taken to Central Shaheed Minar to allow people to pay their last respect.

Under arrangement of Sammilito Sangskritik Jote, people from all walks of life poured in to bid goodbye to the poet.

Earlier in the morning, his body was brought to Dhaka from New York.

The flight which carried the body of the late poet flew from John F Kennedy Airport around 11:03pm on Monday. It landed at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 8:45am today.

From airport, Qadri’s remains were first taken to his brother Shahed Qadri’s home in Banani before being taken to Central Shaheed Minar.

Qadri will be buried at Mirpur’s Intellectual Graveyard following a namaaz-e-janaza, seeking eternal peace for the departed soul, at Dhaka University’s central mosque.

The eminent Bangla poet passed away at a hospital in New York, United States, on August 28 at the age of 74.
