The vegetables that were planted in the school gardens are growing well, and students are eating leafy and fresh vegetables with their meals everyday. At the same time, young students are learning some important lessons about cultivation and nutrition.
Muslim Aid’s agriculturist Md Kabirul Islam said Muslim Aid supported 50 schools to set up vegetable gardens in the school yards and roofs. In first phase, we gave Tk 75,000 to each school. In most cases, school yards were selected for vegetable gardening but those have no enough land in this regard roofs were selected for gardening.
Thana Education Officer (TEO) of Ukhiya Shamim Bhuiyan also visited the different gardens. During his visit, he expressed his happiness as the children are consuming vegetables which are helping them stay fit and focused in school.
The project is of great success especially because children have an opportunity to eat vegetables and learn agriculture relevant skills. Young children have already started planting vegetables at home.
